Specs at a Glance
2023 Kia Sportage vs 2023 Kia Sorento
The 2023 Kia Sportage and Sorento models overflow with best-in-class amenities and style. They're two of Kia's hottest SUVs and ones that make for adventurous travel and satisfying tech experiences. Dynamic voice recognition and large interior touchscreens are just two things in both models. How they're styled and situated in the cabin differs, though, and their powertrains offer distinct advantages to certain drivers and families.
Performance
Both models start with a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine. The horsepower ratings differ, though. The LX Sportage delivers 187 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque, and the LX Sorento comes with 191 horsepower and 182 lb-ft of torque. The Sportage's single-engine offering is a great choice for people looking for an authoritative drive but not one ready to sprint around a racetrack. For people who want more horsepower, the Sorento's mid-size build also comes with a stronger 2.5L turbocharged engine with 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. Its 8-speed wet-type dual-clutch automatic transmission also differs from the Sportage's 8-speed automatic transmission. For those who feel like the 8-speed is plenty, the Sorento also starts out with an 8-speed automatic.
Appearance
Size is the biggest difference between the Sportage and Sorento. As a compact model, the Sportage's compact crossover build endured through the generations. The Sorento is now a mid-size SUV, following the truck's general frame and build. For those who like to really experiment and get something different with their exterior color, the Sportage has a series of two-tone paints like Wolf Gray/Ebony Black, Jungle Green/Ebony Black, and Glacial White Pearl/Ebony Black. The Sorento uses monotones for its paint options and offers attractive colors like Passion Red and Sapphire Blue.
Features
The 2023 Sportage offers a large 12.3-inch touchscreen display with Kia Connect running the show. This is compared to the Sorento's 10.25-inch display that comes on the fully loaded trim. Both models start out with an 8-inch display, that's more than enough for many buyers. The Sorento gets a few extra standard safety features to start off the trim lineup, including Safe Exit Assist and Intelligent Speed Limit Assist. Still, both models are protected by Kia Drive Wise and are top-of-the-line in their classes.
