Diesel cars have been steadily infiltrating the U.S. market and their excellent sales have led several automakers to join the frenzy, developing their own set of diesel models to enter the demanding segment. Kia, a brand that has experienced growth in the American market, is one of the most recent manufacturers to come forward in support of the diesel uprising, revealing that a U.S. diesel car could be in the company's future plans. A few obstacles will have to be taken care of before the project is officially green lit, but Kia believes they can get the ball rolling within the next few years, delivering the diesel before the end of the decade.

Featuring models like the all-new K900 and Soul EV, Kia is no stranger to producing cars for new segments. They're interested in doing the same with a diesel model, but the difference in European and U.S. emission standards is making it difficult for the automaker. If a diesel variant was to be produced now, Kia would have to shell out an extensive amount of money in order to cater to the differences. The company would rather wait until the countries' standards become the same around 2017/18 when they say they'll have a "better chance" at releasing a diesel model.

As of today, Kia has not made any arrangements to begin building a diesel car, but a future model is still a possibility. You can check out the all-new Kia K900 at Camelback Kia in the meantime, as well as the 2015 Soul EV, which will debut later this year.
