Kia is planning to begin testing its autonomous technology in the coming months; a project that should last through the next three years.
The automaker has just been awarded an autonomous driver’s license from the state of Nevada so it can begin testing its current driver assist technologies that includes full autonomous driving systems. Kia plans to have its first driver-assist autos ready for the market by the year 2020, with full autonomous vehicles making their way to dealers like Camelback Kia by 2030.
It’s an exciting project that has all the hope of a fascinating future filled with self-driving cars that are not only safe and fuel efficient, but also really fun. Kia’s autonomous systems currently consist of an Advanced Driver Assistance System that includes everything from Urban Autonomous Driving and Traffic Jam Assist to an Emergency Stop System and Autonomous Valet Parking.
“A great deal of research and rigorous product testing is being undertaken in order to make the ‘self-driving car’ a reality…We are confident that our latest innovations – both for partially- and fully-autonomous driving – will ultimately make driving safer for all road users,” said Dr. Tae-Won Lim, Vice President, Central Advanced Research and Engineering Institute of Hyundai Motor Group, Kia’s parent company.
There is no official date for when this testing will take place, but we are excited about what this new project could hold for new Kia cars in the future. For now, take a look at our current selection of new and used Kia cars in Phoenix at Camelback Kia.
