The Geneva Motor Show is a prime opportunity for automakers to showoff some of their most important and innovative designs. This year, Kia unveiled one of its most talked about concepts in years: the Sportspace Wagon. A possible replacement design for the next-generation Optima, the Sportspace is a fun and unique look at the future of the family car.

Designed in Frankfurt by Kia Motors Europe, the Kia Sportspace was created to meet the needs of families by concentrating on comfort, utility and convenience – all in the name of the weekend warrior. These features make the Sportspace an amalgamation of some of the most important family-focused amenities that combines functionality and performance.

"We set out to design a car that is a totally new breed of grand tourer – one for active people who need reasonable cargo space on the weekend, but don't want to compromise moving around in style, comfort and with an element of sportiness," explains Gregory Guillaume, Chief Designer Europe.

The car’s design will be familiar to modern Kia enthusiasts, thanks to its “tiger-nose” grille, as well as its clean lines and dynamic proportions. These proportions give the wagon a sportier feel than other family wagons in its class, while its “ice cube” LED headlights, plexiglass grille inserts, satin aluminum accent strips and 20-inch ten-spoke alloy wheels give it a very polished and upscale feeling.

No word yet on whether or not the Sportspace will be Kia’s answer to the next Optima hatchback, but we will keep you updated as we hear more about this excellent new concept and when a U.S. version may make its way to our Phoenix Kia dealership.
