What's New For the 2020 Kia Forte?

A well-rounded, affordable sedan, the Kia Forte offers plenty of convenience and safety features regardless of trim level chosen. It fits into the niche between compact and mid-size, so it seats four adults with ease. New for 2020 is the introduction of the GT and GT-Line versions, and the S trim level is no longer available. The interior design is unchanged, but the new GT gets a more powerful engine. Below, the trims, powertrain, and safety features are described in more detail.

Which Features are Available for 2020?

The 2020 Forte is available in a total of five trims. The entry-level FE starts out at around $17,800 and comes with 15-inch steel wheels, height-adjustable front seats, and an 8-inch screen display. Also standard are smartphone app integration, a USB port, and a four-speaker audio system. This and all other trims come with automatic headlights.

The LXS gets 16-inch wheels, a 60/40 split-folding rear seatback, and interior trim upgrades, including a soft-touch dash and soft door surfaces. The GT-Line has special black trim accents on the exterior, 17-inch wheels, and a trunk lid spoiler. This version also gets heated exterior mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and upgraded cloth upholstery with faux leather trim. The GT-Line has an audio system with a total of six speakers.

The EX trim is similarly appointed except for the black exterior accents, and it adds on two-zone climate control, a power-adjustable driver's seat, ventilated front seats, and simulated leather. Additional USB ports and satellite radio are also standard. The range-topping GT trim gets 18-inch wheels, dual exhaust pipes, LED headlights, automatic high-beam control, ambient interior lighting, and shift paddles if the dual-clutch transmission is chosen.

Several package options are available on the higher trims, and these add on such niceties as a sunroof, a wireless charging pad, and a Harman Kardon sound system. Voice recognition and navigation are also available via the purchase of an upgrade package.

Great Power and Fuel Economy

All but the GT trim are powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder engine rated at 147 horsepower. The FE trim has a six-speed manual transmission, and a continuously variable automatic transmission is standard on the other trims and optional on the FE. The GT gets its own unique dual-clutch, seven-speed automatic transmission, but the buyer can still choose the manual. This trim comes with a turbocharged 1.6L engine that makes a total of 201 horsepower. All but the FE trim have selectable drive modes as standard, and all trims are front-wheel drive. The sporty GT trim comes with an independent rear suspension system and larger brakes.

2020 Kia Forte Safety Features

All 2020 Kia Forte trims have antilock brakes, a full set of front and rear airbags, and a rearview camera. Forward collision warning with emergency braking, lane departure warning, and lane-keeping assist are also standard across the trim lineup. The GT-Line adds on blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, and the GT has all of the aforementioned features except for the blind-spot monitor. The GT is eligible for a package that includes adaptive cruise control.
