Which Trims & Features are Available in 2020?

The 2020 Optima is available in a total of four trims. The base model, designated as the LX trim, comes with 16-inch wheels, automatic headlights, remote locking and unlocking, heated exterior mirrors, and cruise control. The steering column is tilt-and-telescopic, the front seats are height-adjustable, and the driver's seat has two-way power lumbar. Bluetooth, an 8-inch screen display, and a six-speaker audio system are also standard. The LX boasts smartphone app integration and satellite radio.

The S trim adds on 18-inch wheels, foglights, LED taillights, a rear spoiler, and push-button start. Faux leather upholstery is a highlight of this trim. A sunroof is optional. The EX comes without the rear spoiler but adds power-folding mirrors, illuminated door handles, and heated front seats. Wood trim is also standard on the EX's interior.

The range-topping SX trim has the rear spoiler, dual exhaust tips, adaptive LED headlights, a flat-bottom steering wheel, ambient interior lighting, a Harman Kardon stereo, and a larger driver information display. The SX can be ordered with a special package that includes leather upholstery.

A Perfect Blend of Power and Fuel Efficiency

The standard engine is a 2.4L four-cylinder rated at 185 horsepower. The engine is matched to a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard. The EX trim comes with a turbocharged 1.6L engine that produces a total of 178 horsepower, and it's mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The SX trim has a more powerful engine, a turbocharged 2.0L engine that pumps out 245 horsepower.

It comes with a six-speed automatic transmission. The SX also gets a sport-tuned suspension and red caliper brakes. The larger turbocharged engine promises quite rapid acceleration, and the turbo comes in handy if high-speed passing on the freeway is necessary. All of the engines provide plenty of low-end power, and braking is better than average for this vehicle segment, with the Optima going from 60 mph to a full stop in just 119 feet.

Safety Features in the Forefront for 2020

Kia has really piled on the standard safety systems in all of its models. The 2020 Optima comes with a full set of airbags, the LATCH system of child seat anchors and tethers, stability and traction control, a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The EX adds an electronic parking brake. The Optima also boasts the dynamic bending light system that swivels the headlights while the vehicle is cornering. The Optima received a perfect five stars from the NHTSA for overall protection.
