Image: Kia America Celebrates National Expansion Of Ionna Charging Network

IONNA - the joint venture funded by leading automakers such as BMW, General Motors, Kia, and Honda - recently announced its transition from public beta testing to full-scale national release.

The IONNA testing phase began in late 2024 as automaker vehicle fleets and everyday drivers helped stress-test the network. More than 4,400 charging sessions were completed on over 80 unique vehicle models. The charging stations dispensed nearly 63 thousand kilowatts of energy during the testing phase. Now that IONNA has refined its hardware and software, it is ready to begin a nationwide expansion with over 1,000 sites scheduled to open nationwide in 2025. Its new HQ and Customer Experience Lab in Durham, NC, will be used as a hub dedicated to ongoing testing and refinement as part of its dedication to a driver-first experience.

IONNA hopes to set a new standard for interoperability and ease of use in 2025. Its Plug & Charge technology is already available and will be refined to become more user-friendly with features such as smart reservations, AI-powered routing, and in-car payments.

One of IONNA's goals is to make owning and driving an electric vehicle easier. We have an excellent selection of electric Kia vehicles, so visit our Kia dealership today to check out our inventory.
